Avalanche Mapping

In response to increasing fatalities due to recreation activities in the backcountry, the BC Government and the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) decided to create Avalanche terrain signs at the trailhead of popular snowmobile riding areas. The information is also available in Google Earth for pre-trip planning and in brochures that are handed out to snowmobile clubs.

The scope of this project was to try and determine how much Crown forested land there was, how much of it was protected and how much was pseudo protected or had a management regime which limited timber harvesting or protected specific values or features.
