GeoBC on Google Earth

GeoBC provides access to high quality, integrated Crown land and resource management data and information services to British Columbians.

We have provided the ability to add some of our data layers to Google Earth so users can utilize that environment. The layers are bundled in packages with details of the packages following the links below. Click on one of the titles below to load a package of layers.

We are working on converting more layers to be available for linking to Google Earth as well as other visualization systems such as Virtual Earth, World Wind and ArcGIS Explorer.

NOTE: In order to use Google Earth you must download software from their site, click here to go to the site.

General information about the packages

The layers will be listed on the left hand side of the screen under the Places panel.

You can toggle the layers on and off as required.

Some layers will only become viewable when you have zoomed in to a particular level which is identified in the descriptions below. The altitude is displayed in the lower right corner of the image window.

Once you are in an area you can zoom in and the view will change appropriately. However as you Zoom out beyond the original view you selected you will have to use Refresh to redraw the image as it is not automatically updated at this time. The Refresh option is available by right-clicking the layer and selecting Refresh from the menu or by using the shortcut key Ctrl+R .
