BCACS GPS Base Station Data

The BC Active Control System (BCACS) network comprises permanent, continuously operating Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) base stations linked to our office in Victoria. It provides raw GNSS observables from GNSS receivers located on accurately positioned and stable geodetic control monumentation.

BCACS Post-mission Data is available for the whole province by subscription or on a pay-per-download basis.

BCACS Municipal Data - MVSubscription Form

This Metro Vancouver RTK Service was developed through a partnership between GeoBC and Metro Vancouver and the municipalities comprising the MV. The Service supports real-time metre level positioning (DGPS) for mapping and GIS applications and positioning at the level of a few centimetres (RTK) horizontally and vertically for survey and engineering applications.

BCACS Municipal Data - CRD

This Capital Regional District real-time GPS Service was developed through a partnership between GeoBC and the Capital Regional District and the municipalities comprising the CRD. The Service supports real-time metre level positioning (DGPS) for mapping and GIS applications and positioning at the level of a few centimetres (RTK) horizontally and vertically for survey and engineering applications.

Geoid Model Data

The Geoid model contributes to the vertical component of the reference system so that ellipsoidal GNSS heights can be converted to orthometric elevations for practical uses.

The geoid roughly equivalent to mean sea level plus the natural continuing of mean sea level under the landmass. This extension must be determined mathematically or modelled. The geoid model is actually based on precise levelling to monuments where GNSS heights have been observed, as well as gravity data collected worldwide. Once the geoid is determined, the difference between the two surfaces, the ellipsoid and the geoid, can be computed anywhere in the country. This difference is known as "geoid-ellipsoid separation" or "geoidal height".

A precise geoid model allows the user to compute orthometric, or sea-level elevations using GNSS technology anywhere across the country.

MASCOT Geodetic Data

The MASCOT system consists of a network of over 50,000 survey control monuments situated in the valleys and mountains throughout British Columbia. This network of monuments was established from mapping and control surveys conducted over the last century. During the 1960's, through a partnership between the provincial government and local governments, the physical control system was extended to developing areas. MASCOT is a database of the provincial control survey's physical system and provides published coordinates and elevations and related data for public access and use.

The MASCOT Website provides access to the final coordinates of the monument from the database. Access to MASCOT is free of charge. A google Earth kml file providing a graphical access can be downloaded from: http://openmaps.gov.bc.ca/kml/BCGov_Geodetic_Survey_wms.kml.
