Integrated Cadastral Fabric

The Integrated Cadastral Fabric (ICF) is a single, integrated and consistent digital mapping of the location, extentand nature of land parcels (both Crown and privately held) in British Columbia. It is intended to represent the current groundstate in a continuous, non-overlapping fabric of private and crown-administered surface land parcels which have been defined by various surveys (e.g. including Land Act and Land Title Act surveys).

Hillshade

Hillshade - TRIM products are a derivation of the BC gridded Digital Elevation Model (BC DEM) consisting of eight distinct raster products, presented in two different common planar projections, in file formats appropriate to the file content. The BC DEM files use the National Topographic System (NTS) at 1:250 000 scale (250K blocks) as a delivery basis and have a grid spacing of 25 metres.

Satellite Imagery

Satellite imagery are photographs of Earth or other planets made from artificial satellites. Satellites orbiting Earth have an orbit, elevation and time intervals to cover the globe and image the same area. Examples of these satellites are Landsat, SPOT, IKONOS, Quick Bird and IRS. Active satellites record reflected radiations which the sensors will send to earth surface. These are Radar Satellites such as Canadian RADARSAT 1 and 2.

WIMSI Imagery Finder

This application will help you to find air photo or orthophoto imagery for specific locations like named geographic features or latitude and longitude coordinates. Search parameters such as the search radius, range of years of photography, or BCGS mapsheet can be specified. If you know a particular air photo's film roll and frame number desigantion, the individual frame or even the entire film roll can be located. Search results can be exported for viewing within Google Earth and other applications that support .kml files, or as .csv text files for use with text editors, databases or spreadsheets.

(NRC) Land Cover, circa 2000 - Vector

Land Cover information is the result of vectorization of raster thematic data originating from classified Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 ortho-images, for agricultural and forest areas of Canada. The forest cover was produced by the Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EOSD) project, an initiative of the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) with the collaboration of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and in partnership with the provincial and territorial governments. The agricultural coverage is produced by the National Land and Water Information Service (NLWIS) of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). LCC2000-V is distributed as 1:250 000 scale National Topographic System (NTS) tiles.

Forest and Range Evaluation Program

This poster was produced to help summarize the Annual Report prepared by the Forest and Range Evaluation Program; a detailed publication which is typically between 40-50 pages in length.  The intention was to present the key findings as an easier to understand visual summary and provide a very quick way to get an overview of the FREP Annual Report.

Carbon Stores

The scope of this project was to try and determine how much Crown forested land there was, how much of it was protected and how much was pseudo protected or had a management regime which limited timber harvesting or protected specific values or features.
A large, wall-size (44" x 34"),@ 300 dpi for excellent viewing and printing.

Avalanche Mapping

In response to increasing fatalities due to recreation activities in the backcountry, the Recreation Sites and Trails BC and the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) decided to create Avalanche terrain signs at the trailhead of popular snowmobile riding areas. The information is also available in Google Earth for pre-trip planning and in brochures that are handed out to snowmobile clubs.

Geoid Model Data

The Geoid model contributes to the vertical component of the reference system so that ellipsoidal GNSS heights can be converted to orthometric elevations for practical uses.

The geoid roughly equivalent to mean sea level plus the natural continuing of mean sea level under the landmass. This extension must be determined mathematically or modelled. The geoid model is actually based on precise levelling to monuments where GNSS heights have been observed, as well as gravity data collected worldwide. Once the geoid is determined, the difference between the two surfaces, the ellipsoid and the geoid, can be computed anywhere in the country. This difference is known as "geoid-ellipsoid separation" or "geoidal height".

A precise geoid model allows the user to compute orthometric, or sea-level elevations using GNSS technology anywhere across the country.

MASCOT Geodetic Data

The MASCOT system consists of a network of over 50,000 survey control monuments situated in the valleys and mountains throughout British Columbia. This network of monuments was established from mapping and control surveys conducted over the last century. During the 1960's, through a partnership between the provincial government and local governments, the physical control system was extended to developing areas. MASCOT is a database of the provincial control survey's physical system and provides published coordinates and elevations and related data for public access and use.

The MASCOT Website provides access to the final coordinates of the monument from the database. Access to MASCOT is free of charge. A google Earth kml file providing a graphical access can be downloaded from: http://openmaps.gov.bc.ca/kml/BCGov_Geodetic_Survey_wms.kml.
